Clinical counselling is the process of a client and counsellor setting aside time in order to explore select issues together. Effective counselling can help reduce confusion in certain areas of life and increase a person’s capacity to tolerate strong emotions, allowing them to make more effective decisions leading to positive changes in their attitude and/or behaviour. Effective counselling is not advice-giving and is not acting on someone else’s behalf. The ultimate aim of counselling is to enable the client to make their own choices, reach their own decisions and to act upon them accordingly.

With over 17 years of work experience in the field of mental health, Jineya has been a practicing clinical counsellor in Rossland and Castlegar for almost 7 years. She has advanced training in childhood trauma, critical incident traumatic events, PTSD, EMDR, anxiety, depression, anger management, stress management, identity development, burnout, compassion fatigue, grief and loss, among other clinical issues. Since opening in 2017 she’s expanded her practice to include supporting clients navigating our medical system with a particular focus on autoimmune diseases, hormone health, and chronic pain. As an immigrant female person of colour, Jineya is passionate about providing services to those living with multiple marginalizations and actively works to dismantle and repair systems of harm both in her professional and personal life. Currently, she works with adults of all kinds (18+), extensively with teachers, health care workers, Teck employees, college/university students, parents, and any individuals desiring change in their lives and relationships. Most recently her continued education includes psychedelic-assisted therapy, ADHD, and IFS although she does not have advanced certification in those areas.

Her clinical style stems from person-centred mindfulness based approaches, EMDR, CBT, and attachment theory. As a counsellor, her hope is to bring people into a space where they feel supported to learn more about their current values, emotions, and beliefs, and assist them in creating a life that strongly reflects their goals and desires.

Her clinical background includes working closely with immigrants and refugees regarding the unique barriers they face transitioning to a new country, as well as working with college populations. She has a strong interest in working with members of the LGBTQ community, specializing in working with intersectional marginalization issues that multiple-minority groups face.
